On to Indy

The best laid plans are bound to be changed, at least that seems to be the way it goes for me. The original plan was to get up, head to the Saint Mary's bookstore by 9 when it opened and the on to Indianapolis.

By 9 am we were just heading to breakfast at the hotel, oops!  We had breakfast and then we're off to SMC.  We spent quite a bit of time walking around campus and sharing my favorite sites with Will and Brian.

We finally hit the road to Indy around noon.  This was my first time on the 31 bypass from South Bend to Indy - so much better than the boring 3 hour trek on 65!  We took a slight detour around Kokomo in search of a Starbucks (which the sign claimed was 2 miles from the bypass), but got back on the bypass after we were unable to find Starbucks :(.

Our great traveller slept the whole way from South Bend to Indy and was ready to go by the time we got there. Our origins thought was to visit the Indianapolis Zoo, but getting to Indy around 2:30 and the zoo closing at 5, we decided to skip the zoo. We hung out at the hotel for a bit and then headed out to meet Emily for dinner at Giadornio's.

After dinner Brian and Will swam for a little bit. When we first got to the pool it was quiet but as more kids came into the pool we decided it was time for bed.

Journey to the Golden Dome

It's road trip time!

Brian has a conference for work this weekend in Indianapolis so Will and I are tagging along.  The conference starts on Saturday so we left a few days earlier to have some fun as a family.

Since I find the drive on I65 extremely boring, I decided to change things up a bit this time around. I did a few Google searches and discovered that going to Indy via South Bend only added about 30 minutes to the trip so that is what we did. We left Milwaukee early afternoon and arrived in South Bend around 5:30. Since the bookstore at Saint Mary's was already closed we headed straight for the hotel to check in and feed Will.

Once the belly was full we ventured over to Notre Dame.  We explored (and spent a few dollars) in the bookstore and then walked down near the dome to take a few pictures.

One of the benefits of going through South Bend is that we got to spend a bit of time with Bridget. She stopped by the hotel after we got back from dinner and was greeted with plenty of smiles from Will.

My little guy did great today, he slept most of the car ride and was up almost two hours past his normal bedtime without getting fussy at all. Our hotel room is great because there is an area separate from where the bed is so we were able to tuck his pack n play out of the way. He is so wiped that I was able to move his bed a few times while he was sleeping and he never moved a muscle.
